Ways to change lifestyle to reduce blood pressure at home

  • Exercise regularly like jogging, cycling, freehand and swimming.
  • Sodium will retain water in our body which makes more blood fluid volume and causes the blood pressure to go up. So reduce adding more salt and eating unsalted foods is recommended.
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables but watch out for added salt, sugar or fats. As fruits and vegetables are the best sources of potassium which can lessen the effect of sodium on blood pressure.
  • Stress and mental worries will also contribute to high blood pressure. Therefore, try to get out of it by relaxation and meditation.
  • Avoid caffeine (coffee) is a stimulant which causes the heart to beat faster and the blood pressure rises.
  • Try taking some natural remedies like fish oil, ginger, olive oil, turmeric for lowering blood pressure and avoid white carbs, sugary drinks and excessive dietary fats like meats, milk and eggs.
  • Take a soaking hot bath or hot shower which can actually suppress one's blood pressure for several hours.

You can monitor your blood pressure by using a sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope. Know what is considered low blood pressure (hypotension) below 60/40mmHg and at this point seek immediate medical attention for that. It is very important to track blood pressure even if you are in normal conditions because it is also referred as "silent killer". Even knowing these tips, you should consult your doctor.
